The Great Hall was filled with the joy of dance on Saturday 8 February for the national media launch of Let’s Dance. It was a great pleasure to co-host with Angela Rippon CBE, and welcome some amazing dance groups and the strictly stars to Guildhall.
This is a fantastic initiative developed by and supported by organisations like the Sport and Recreation Alliance, the Together Coalition.
The City Corporation is also delighted to be supporting this campaign and we will be unveiling our own plans to help promote dance in line with the Campaign aspirations.
The mission is simple: to get the nation dancing, while demonstrating the wider social and health benefits dance can offer.
The media launch today showcased the transformative power of dance for people of all ages and backgrounds, with a diverse set of performances to take place involving celebrities from the world of dance.
The key aim is to inspire people to join the movement by going along to a dance session being organised in their local communities on Sunday 2 March – National Dance Day.
Let’s Dance! has the power to change lives. Whether it’s for fitness, fun, or to meet new people, the Let’s Dance! campaign aims to make it accessible to all and demonstrate the value to society of an active, healthy nation.
I was also very pleased to announce that we will be inviting Angela to receive the Freedom of the City of London.
